Welcome to the Power4Good Website.
On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank you for your interest in Power4Good which was set up in 2005. We are the only NGO in Ireland targeting disabled people in developing countries to achieve independence and self-respect. To be disabled in very low income countries is to become invisible; to be the very poorest of the poor, denied access to education, healthcare, public transport and employment, and generally unable to participate in the local community. In our own history we have faced and overcome similar problems, and P4G will seek to capture the skills and experience that exist in abundance in Ireland to help us with our work.
Our vision is that of a world where people with disabilities can enjoy full Human Rights and achieve their full potential. P4G has adopted the ‘social model’ of development – working with people with disabilities giving them the tools and skills to help themselves.
Our Mission therefore is to create strategic partnerships with local disability organisations in Africa and Asia to ensure that vital support reaches those most in need in local communities.
Power4Good Core Actions include:
- Poverty Reduction and Livelihoods creation
- Human and Civil Rights
- Capacity Building
- Community Development
- Advocacy
We have received support from Irish Aid, Clann Credo to carry out our work, and are indebted to them for their confidence in us. However, we have a considerable amount of funds to raise, and we have received great support from local communities. You can help by clicking on the links on this website, by setting up a Standing Order, organising a fundraising event or supporting Power4Good events in your area. If you want more information on fundraising please contact jimobrien@eircom.net our Fundraising Sub Committee Chairperson.
Power4Good is governed by a Board of Directors from various parts of Ireland representing a wide range of interests in the public, private and community sectors.
We are indebted to our Co-ordinator, Patrick Austin, for his work and commitment to Power4Good. Please feel free to contact him at p4gaustin@yahoo.ie if you want information on any of our programmes.
